Wurgilnô emerged in Limburg in 2023, growing out of ideas that had first taken shape in the earlier project Mergelland. Rooted firmly in the history, folklore and landscape of the Southern Netherlands, Wurgilnô draws inspiration from executions and persecution, mining disasters, forgotten legends and the soil itself.
The project began as the work of P., who handled the guitars, bass, vocals and composition. The first songs appeared in the spring of 2023, followed on June 30 by the debut album De Doden Rusten Niet in Vrede through Fetzner Death Records. The Angst EP followed later that year.
In 2024 Wurgilnô continued with Krijtland, again turning towards Limburg and its surrounding regions for its stories and atmosphere. Further recordings and collaborations followed, expanding the project without abandoning its regional identity.
What started as a one-man project has since developed into a permanent two-piece. D.B. joined Wurgilnô as its permanent drummer, bringing live drums into the project and becoming a full member rather than a session musician. D.B. is also active in Duindwaler and Hellevaerder.
Wurgilnô remains focused on the darker histories and traditions of Limburg: not as distant folklore, but as something still present in the landscape, beneath the ground and in collective memory.
