Biography

Wurgilnõ (meaning: Man on a gallows) emerged from the Dutch Limburgian Black Metal project Mergelland. With Mergelland, Consanguineus released the first release in 2021 titled “Verloren in de Groeve” inspired by a tour of the Zonnenberg in Maastricht. After this release, however, the project went silent.

From November 2022, Consanguineus played in the Sludge/Doom-metal band The Curse of Yig, where he also composed music. However, some songs leaned towards Black Metal, so he decided to release them under a different name. Initially, he considered restarting Mergelland, but quickly decided to start anew, and Wurgilnõ was born.

In April 2023, the debut single “Kraaien op het Galgenveld” was released, quickly followed by “Tot eeenzaamheid Verbannen” and “De Bloedrode beek”. The debut album was initially planned as a tape release on his own Merg & Been label, but Fetzner Death Records from Karlsruhe, Germany, had different plans and offered a contract for a CD release.

On June 30, 2023, the debut album “De Doden Resten Niet In Vrede” (FDR015) was released on the German label, receiving favorable reviews. In October 2023, the “Angst” EP was released on tape in a collaboration between Merg & Been and WolfKult Religion.

In November 2023, Consanguineus began work on the successor to the debut album, set to be released on June 11 via Fetzner Death Records (CD.FDR032/MC.FDR0032). The new album, titled “Krijtland” once again revolves around the legends and myths of the Southern Netherlands and Flanders.

After “Krijtland” Consanguineus worked on several single releases before getting the opportunity to record a split-7″ with Grafjammer and a split-album with Perfide which both will be released in 2026.

Besides Wurgilnô Consanguineus is also involved in Galghe, Vergankelijk, Inverted Pentagram, Corpusculum and several other project with different musicians.
